According to Royal Oman Police statistics, more than five hundred people per year die in Oman because of car accidents. The majority of deaths are people who are under the age of twenty five years old. As a result a considerable number of educated people think that the government should discuss a proposal to raise the legal age for learning to drive to twenty one.Doing so decreases the number of people who cause problems on the roads. Added to that, decreasing the number of vehicles results in less damage to the environment. Many people think that such a proposal should take place because these days’ young adults do not seem to be mature enough especially when they are driving. Moreover, they do not obey the regulations which are set by the government to decrease the number of car accidents.On the other hand, many people think that at this age adults should be allowed to taste freedom so that they do not need others to give them lifts from A to B. The biggest defect of such a proposal is that when students finish their secondary education some decide to work as drivers. They would have to wait till they reach twenty one years old to start working.On balance, in my opinion the disadvantages of such a proposal should be considered. However, a different fair solution should be found to solve this problem.
